An old Marash saying . . .
Marashdan olsun, çamurdan olsun!
(Rough translation: "Let it be from Marash, even if it's mud!"
or . . . "We love whatever is from Marash, even if it's mud." or . . . "We even love mud, as long as it's from Marash!")

"Stuff!"
Remembering former owner of the Christmas Tree Shops (who grew up down the street from Marash Girl), commenting to Marash Girl years ago, "Don't you just love stuff?"
That's what happens when you grow up with very little "stuff" and lots of cousins with whom you must share the "stuff" that comes your way!
Perhaps the above explains MG's addiction to yard sales! (Can't wait for the next one!)

Label Those Antique Dishes!
Getting together for a summer outing this weekend? Taking an antique cake plate full of freshly baked pastries? Make sure you put your name/address label on the underside of the plate, a label that identifies the dish as yours, especially if there are many folks attending, and your platter is antique. The failure to do so by Marash Girl recently elicited a near loss of Grandma Jennie's treasured cake dish to a stranger who insisted that the dish was hers . . . a cake dish that Grandma Jennie had won at a movie theatre in Cambridge when her ticket stub was the winning stub drawn at the theatre all those many years ago. Marash Martha cautioned Marash Girl to "Label Those Antique Dishes"!!!

Cardboard Tubes?
Remember those cardboard tubes that are left after the toilet paper is finished? What fun Marash Girl and her siblings and cousins had years ago, marching around the house "Toot - toot - tooting" through those tubes . . . They weren't tubes for the cousins . . . they were brass horns!!!
Few toys in the house contributed to lots of creativity and lots of fun for Marash Girl, her sister, her brother, and her cousins!

Happy Independence Day, France!
Every July 14, before the tornado took away the cabin at the top of the mountain, the family -- fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas -- would all gather on the mountain top to celebrate French Independence Day . . . raising the French flag (next to the flag of the United States of America, of course) and singing the Marseillaise out to all the neighborhood and to all in the valley below . . .
Those were the the good old days!!!!

Protractor on Maple Avenue
Haven't seen a protractor in years! Wonder who was trying to measure the height of the curb stone or the angle of the base of the curb at the street . . . using a broken protractor, at that! Photo by MarashGirl©2021
