Mystery Quince!

Marash Girl needs your help in identifying this flowering plant! (Or is it a fruit tree? A tree that bears quince fruit?) What is it? A Chinese Quince? A Japanese Quince? Do you know its real name? Could it be, as one website suggests Chaenomeles speciosa (Sweet) Nakai Chinese-Quince rosaceae? Or, as another website suggests, Chaenomeles japonica Japanese Quince? Maule's Quince? Whatever it's name is, Marash Girl is delighted to have it growing in her side yard!

Photo By MarashGirl©2022 Perhaps Marash Girl should have waited until Halloween to post the photo of this plant, a Witch's Moneybags Hylotelephium telephium (L.) H. (Hylotelephium telephium - Orpine), that appears in her garden in April (the plant, not the photo)! Marash Girl wonders which witch lost the moneybags this past October . . . and which witch gave the plant its name . . . Or perhaps Marash Girl should be using the plant's other name: Garden Stonecrop! More appropriate for a garden in May, don't you think?

Oxalis Regnellii (Lucky Shamrock)

Searching the internet for the identification of this flowering plant, a plant that has been in the east window in Karoun's room for years, Marash Girl found that the greenery pictured below is named Oxalis Regnellii (Lucky Shamrock), a plant that bravely flowers literally in the face of the winter snows.

This Corn Plant grows happily all year round, seated on a plant stand at the eastern most window on the second floor of an old Victorian house in the Boston suburbs...but no sign of corn ever!

It may be autumn, but the Christmas Cactus is blooming to remind us that . . . yes, Christmas is coming!

Finally. . . An Avocado Pit That Has Begun To Root!!!

Although she purchases fresh avocados weekly, it's been years, literally, since Marash Girl has found an avocado with a pit that has begun to root . . . She had all but given up until last week, when she cut open an avocado to make her favorite avocado dip (ripe fresh avocado with skin and pit removed, mashed and then mixed with a tablespoon or two of tomato salsa) . . . there it was! An avocado pit that had begun to sprout roots! Hooray! Marash Girl immediately rinsed that pit in cool water, wiping it gently to remove whatever of the avocado vegetable was left on the pit, being careful not to injure the root. She pierced the pit half way up from its base three times, each time with a toothpick spaced equidistantly apart from the others, then hung the beloved avocado pit by its newly acquired toothpicks in a glass of water ... Fingers crossed that months from now, Marash Girl will be able to report that a baby avocado plant has begun to grow up out of the avocado pit in the glass on her kitchen windowsill.
