More on Hot Dogs . . .

In honor of the Red Sox opening game this season, Trader Joe's was offering free samples of their healthy, all beef, all natural "hot dogs" on all natural whole wheat "hot dog" rolls with all natural mustard!  How could those healthy, tasty, all-natural tidbits be called, by any stretch of the imagination, hot dogs?

  1. Hi. I am going to try again — I am seeking information about the life and death of Allan Halpern, whom you eulogized a few months ago. I don't know if your Allan was my Allan, who was very dear to me in 1963-64. My Allan was sharing a Brooklyn apartment (with Julia Ludmer) and teaching math at a private school there. He loved music, especially opera, and took violin lessons (because of him, I took viola lessons, so we could play in a — very amateurish — string quartet).
My Allan's parents died when he was in his teens and he lived with relatives for a time, as did yours. He also had a cousin named Gary (as did yours), whom I met some time in 1963 — a chubby little boy.
I married someone else (it's complicated, as they say) and never saw my Allan again. But I have looked for him on the internet, and elsewhere, hoping to find news of him.
Please answer me — I'd like to know if your and my Allan are/were the same. If so, I'd like to know what he made of his life — and, I hope, that he was happy.

Hello - Sadly, the Allan you knew is the same Allan who died earlier this year. I met this wonderful man in 1966 and we were married in 1970. He became a librarian and spent nearly 20 years at Fordham University until ill health forced him to resign. He was husband, friend and mentor to me and we remained very much in love to the end. 2. Thank you so much for responding. I am so sorry that he has died — although, given his many-packs-a-day cigarette habit, I would have expected him to die much earlier — and I am so glad that he found someone to love and who loved him. Perhaps he told you about me?
      All best wishes.

Are you Barbara? Sarah? Judy? There were many women in Allan’s life, some known to me, others not.
And Allan did give up cigarettes early in the 1970s. Thanks so much for writing.

    4. None of the above. I send you all good wishes and will not intrude anymore.
