Love your wife? Keep quiet about it!
Apparently, in the tradition of Armenians from Marash, it was unacceptable for a man to wax eloquent about his wife; if he were so gauche as to do so, he would be asked post-haste, "What? Are you trying to sell her?"
or as henny youngman was wont to say, "Take my wife (for instance implied)...Please!
ReplyDeletethe query was probably rooted in a time when that indeed was the case, not by armenians, but by the surrounding culture.
